Insights into a PMU Artist’s Day: Artistry, Passion, and Dedication

A PMU Artist’s Day

I thought I’d take a break from my usual posts about techniques, trends, and products to give you a little glimpse into my everyday life as a permanent makeup (PMU) artist. It’s not all glitz and glam, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.

Morning: The Start of the Day

My day starts early, usually around 6 am. First, I like to have a little “me” time before the day’s chaos sets in. I’ll brew a pot of coffee, do a short workout session, and have a healthy breakfast. This time allows me to center myself and prepare mentally for the day ahead.

Once I’m ready to face the world, I’ll review my schedule for the day. Appointments for PMU procedures are typically booked weeks in advance, but it’s always good to double-check for any cancellations or reschedules that may have come through overnight.

Late Morning and Afternoon: The Heart of the Workday

Most of my appointments are scheduled in the late morning and afternoon. Each appointment starts with a consultation. The client and I discuss their vision, I provide my professional input, and together we decide on the best course of action.

Performing the actual PMU procedure takes precision, patience, and creativity. Whether it’s microblading eyebrows, or giving someone fuller-looking lips, each procedure is a unique art project with the client’s face as the canvas.

After each session, there’s cleanup, sterilization, and setting up for the next client. Between appointments, I’ll often have quick phone consultations with potential clients or follow-ups with those who have recently had procedures. I also try to fit in a quick snack to fuel up for my next client.

Evening: Winding Down

By late afternoon or early evening, my last client of the day has come and gone. With the day’s work complete, it’s time for the administrative side of the business. I’ll check emails, complete client record keeping, make and confirm appointments, order supplies, and manage my social media accounts.

This part of the day also involves staying current with industry trends. I’ll catch up on PMU forums, read articles, and sometimes take online classes. The world of PMU is constantly evolving, so continual learning is crucial to remain relevant and to provide the best service to my clients.

Once all the day’s work is done, it’s time to unwind. Just like anyone else, I cherish my evenings as a time to relax, spend time with family and friends, watch a good movie, or curl up with a good book. I also love to cook and spend time with our 2 children in the garden.

Final Thoughts

Being a PMU artist can be intense. The work is detailed, the hours can be long, and you’re constantly dealing with people’s personal appearances – a sensitive topic for many. However, it’s also incredibly rewarding! Nothing can quite compare to the moment when a client looks in the mirror after a procedure and loves what they see.

This profession is a perfect blend of artistry, technical skill, and human connection. It’s not a job that one can do half-heartedly; it takes passion and dedication. But for those of us who love it, there’s nothing else we’d rather do.

I hope you enjoyed this little peek into a PMU artist’s day. Every day brings new faces, new challenges, and new triumphs. It’s a beautiful, rewarding chaos that I’m grateful to be a part of.

Until next time, stay beautiful!
